LETTERS

file: letter of Palmiro Togliatti answering to the invitation of Ernani Civalleri (antifascist emigrated to Russia) to visit Vladimir, in the Volga region. Document presented by Erik Civalleri.

date: Rome, 16 November 1961.

text: Dear comrades, I remember well comrade Ernani Civalleri and the fecund activity that he carried out first in Turin and then in the Soviet Union. I would gladly have come to visit you if I had had the possibility of  bringing  myself to Vladimir but, unfortunately, urgent job engagements  have forced me to re-enter in Italy as soon as the XII Conference of the CPUS finished  . You receive my best wishes salutes and congratulations.

Signed:: Palmiro Togliatti.

file: letters written from readers of the Izvestia daily paper, where Boris Efimovich Efimov publishes his vignettes of political satire.

translation: (a factory worker writes) I like a lot the vignettes done by Efimov and I consider it proletarian art of high quality. He is the best satirist of the proletariat.

                   translation: (a young reader wirtes) I read every day the front page news on the Izvestia newspaper and your vignettes and only you after so many years have been able to characterize so well the world of capitalism and the world of socialism.
