He meets Mirko Zappi and other commanders. On September, 1944, the
partisans form an alliance with the American Army. Orlov wants to re-enter
in the USSR. In Rome he meets a Soviet military mission that takes care of
his repatriation. However, it is not an easy task: the Soviets must make sure
if Orlov, for too long outside the USSR, has effectively fought
against Nazi-fascism or if he is a spy. In the end, he becomes
repatriated. But once he has reached Moscow, Orlov gets sent to a
prison camp and forced to work, for the Soviets are still not sure of his
position. In the end, Orlov succeeds to send the news to his family and
receives the visit of his father. He gets sent free in June of 1944. In 1965
he works in a sovkos as an engineer assigned to agricultural machines.
Subsequently, he gets elected as President of the Workers' Committee. In 1967
he returns to Italy for a reunion of the Garibaldi partisans. Currently he
is retired and lives in a Moscow suburb. |
