subject biography:
Sergio De Martino is born in 1923 at Kerch. His parents (Pasquale e Anna)
have Italian origins, from Bari. In 1942 he is deported with family to
Kazakhstan, at Karaganda. On April 17th, 1943 he gets sentenced by the
NKVD special commission (Oso) to capital punishment, changed two
months later into ten years of deportation and then for the
next five years he is stripped of
his civil
rights. Then he gets sentences to forced labor at the mines in
Dnepopetrovsky at the "Beregovoj N.5 Gulag" and following to the
"Lazo Gulag". In 1947 he gets transferred to the Magadan region.
Liberated from forced labor on May 1952, remains in exile at Magadan up
until 1956, when he is set free . He finds work at the port at Krasnodar as
a captain on the Mercury Ship. Retires at Krasnodar, and writes
his memoirs on the book "Memories with the mouth sewn" .
Rehabilitated. Dies in 1992. |
